Early this spring we discovered that the Friendly Planet Travel agency is licensed to operate People to People tours sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department. Friendly Planet offers several tours to Cuba. We chose the Colors of Cuba, a nine-day package that that focuses on the history and culture of the country and includes a visit to Fuster's home/studio. By joining the group and leaving all of the travel and sightseeing arrangements to Friendly Planet, we could go to Cuba!
With a minimum of fuss, we soon found ourselves at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Miami, where we met our tour manager, Connie Dineen, and the other 22 members of our group. The next morning we boarded an American Airlines charter for Havana. Just like that!

A special note to fellow travelers: I've put this blog together from the 1155 photos that Lloyd and I took. You'd think with that many shots we'd have gotten everything, but with the click-click situation and not enough teamwork, shots slipped away. If any of you have pictures that would fill in blanks or help explain in more detail the places we visited, we'd be delighted to include them with full credit to you.
This blog is a work in progress. Consider it a first draft. We have no photos of the talk given by the economist nor of Che Guevera's memorial and museum, so they are not included yet. I'll be adding a blurb about each; photos would be welcome if you care to share. I'm a bit baffled by some of the font sizes and spacing that Blogger laid on and will be tweaking the layout as I figure it out.
Also, memory is a slippery thing that sometimes distorts, so corrections and additions to the narrative are also encouraged. Leave a comment at the end of the blog page or contact me directly at kben920 at sbcglobal.net.
Many thanks,
Kathie & Lloyd
